About

Clayton and Dingley are suburbs in Melbourne’s southeast, located approximately 25 kilometres from Melbourne‚Äôs Central Business District (CBD).

Clayton South has been used for sand quarrying since the 1890s and by the 1900s market gardens emerged in the area. Since the 1960s, landfills have become common in Clayton South.

Seven landfills are currently licensed to operate by EPA Victoria in Clayton and Dingley.

Odour pollution surrounding these landfill sites have become an issue in recent years and EPA Victoria recognises that the odour being experienced by residents in Clayton South, Clarinda and Dingley Village is not acceptable. Dust generated from landfills is also recognised by EPA Victoria as an issue for the community. EPA, Council, operators and the community are working to address these.

For further information on EPA Victoria, including landfill locations and how the odour pollution is being addressed, visit EPA Victoria’s dedicated Clayton and Clarinda landfill webpage.
